Christmas/New Year in Edinburgh

I'm looking for some advice.
My sons and their friends have tickets for Hogmanay in Edinburgh but need to get back to Glasgow on the 1st January by 5pm. They have a friend who stays in Edinburgh so could stay there overnight after the celebrations.
Will there be any public transport back to Glasgow? Or if they drive where can they park for around 24 hours?0 -
Have a read of this page...

and this for bus time tables from the Park and Ride locations

Sorry to take so long to reply. It looks like there are trains running between Edinburgh & Glasgow but not buses.
The problem may now be the weather!0 -
Silly question time...
I am driving friends through for the street party for Hogmanay. However, I'm coming from Glasgow and know very little about Edinburgh.
Could someone possibly suggest somewhere to park that is within walking distance [read : half an hour's walk] of Princess Street but that will be relatively quiet, and if possible, free?0 -
Some of the streets just past the east end of Princes Street off London Road have free parking. Please remember that parking is free on 1st Jan (also 31st Dec as it's a Sunday) but not on the 2nd.0
