9ct White gold?

I hope i can get some tips!
Thinking of buying a ring.
I just want a nice classic silver colour ring and wondered about 9ct white, will it discolour/ go grey?
Platinum is a bit expensive for me; I'm not very good at looking after things!

I only wear white gold - no, it doesn't discolour... I find it appears shinier and a lot cleaner than yellow gold!

    Thanks for your reply.
What do you think about 9ct? And do you get your gold re-plated? How does it fare with every-day wearing?

  • My engagement ring is 18ct white gold, and it had a rodium plating, which in short "shines it up" it doesn't notice at all. It's not worth re plating in my opinion as it wears of quickly. We do have an ultrasonic cleaner we picked up for about £15 which is used every 4 months or so.

I shouldn't think there would be much difference in the 9ct other than the price, and it's a harder gold.

If you want silver colour, why not get silver? Moneysaving !
Silver can tarnish with time, but cleans up easy with a bit of washing up liquid or silver dip.

I had some silver once and it didn't look good. Really cheap. I want to get a diamond ring so I want the surrounding metal to look ok.

I just wonder if 18ct white gold looks greyer than 9ct after the rhodium wears off?

I've had the ring and worn it on the same finger as the wedding ring for the past 7 years. It doesn't look grey at all, i would say it looks better now the plating is not on, it literally looks no different.

We went for the white gold as neither of us is keen on the "gold" colour, and similarly I am not good at looking after things so have inlaid princess cut diamonds which are within the ring rather than "sticking out" which will catch on things. Hope that helps
