Online Loan Applications

Hi all

I just wondered if you can help.

I have been advised that I have made an online application to a loan company. I know I did not and was just wondering if legally (to prevent fraud etc) that the company has to record the IP address that the application was made under.

I hope that this is the case as I want to use this as evidence and take action accordingly.

Thanks in advance

Well there is nothing in consumer credit law I am aware of that the company must record the IP address. Not only that but there is such thing as a dynamic IP address, which means the IP is virtual and changes regularly. What is the reason for you wanting that information as this sounds like a matter for the police?
    Best Regards

Thanks, I received an email advising I had previously applied and I know I didnt, Am getting somewhere with them but want to prove them wrong.

Am I right in saying that the dynamic IP address is stored by the providing company and can be deemed on if I was to go to court?

if you are worried, the best thing to do would be to check your credit reports and see if any applications have been made or accounts opened in your name that you don't know about. Then you can contact the right companies and have it sorted.

if it was a fishing email, nothing will show on your reports.

Yes your ISP will store it, but they won't give it to you (or anyone else for that matter) without a court order.
