I have posted this in the debt free wannabe section, but just realised that it's probably better suited to this section ...
Hi guys, I don't know where exactly to post this, but I have had a letter through today from HMRC about tax overpayment and was wondering if I could have some advice.
This is the letter I received
Now the amount of tax overpaid is £647 and it says repayment is due, and what I'm wondering is am I still actually going to be sent a payable order, because I had a period of unemployment???
I'm really baffled, does anyone have any advice?

Dear Miss Reece
I have reviewed your income tax liability for the year shown above to see whether you have underpaid or overpaid tax for that year.
My calculation is given on the enclosed sheet. The calculation result is given near the foot of that page.
The "See Notes" column refers to the numbered notes in the guidance leaflet "Understanding your Tax Calculation" which I also enclose.
A payable order for this amount has been issued to you separately.
You did not receive a repayment following your period of unemployment.

If it states that you are to receive a repayment, then you will. The overpayment is probably due to the period of unemployment. Do you agree with the figures shown on the calculation?0
-
The figures sound about right ... I left my job in September of last year and moved back to Wales and started claiming Carer's Allowance for my disabled mother after my father died ... the only thing that concerns me is me claiming a taxable benefit might affect my repayment ... it's all very confusing0

Is the P800 definitely for 09-10? And did the Carer's Allowance commence prior to April 2010?If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !0

I've just phoned hmrc and they confirmed a cheque has been sent out to me ... omg £647 just before Xmas ... it's a miracle lol :T0

You're required to tell them if the figures are wrong. As before - is the P800 for 09-10, and is there taxable Carer's Allowance not accounted for?If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !0

I hope it has been accounted for in the calc, dont spend the money until you've checked the assessment fully. HMRC will want the money back if its incorrect.0
-
yeah it's been included
received the cheque yesterday so am going to pay it in today to my savers account and leave it there until December
thanks for all the help and advice everyone :money:0 -
