Helpdesk analyst interview

I have an interview next week for a helpdesk analyst position for which ive no experience and my cv reflects that so im hoping they have read my cv and are aware of that fact. Basically what i want opinions on is should i offer to start on a lower salary and work my way up to the salary in the ad. Ill also ask what training would be available to get me up to speed.

thanks

no, let them tell you what the starting salary for a learner will be. don't give money away or undervalue yourself! More important for me would be that you know you have skills gaps but are willing to invest personal time ie at home in evenings reading manuals, etc.

ie do NOT follow the mantra in your signature!

New house. Bigger mortgage. MFWB after I have my buffer cash in place.

the mantra in my sig is for my current job but i would be prepared to put the effort in if i were to be offered the job plus its more money than what i get now so ive got an incentive to put more effort into it

Just say you are interested in working at market rate.
  • I started in that position three years ago on a low salary and have worked my way up to a management role. I'm actually currently hosting interviews for a Helpdesk Analyst and I would say don't worry about having no experience it's in no way a disadvantage - it probably makes life easier as you can be trained properly without bad habits etc. Regarding salary, have they provided a range they're willing to pay? I think you need to be honest with how much you'd like and I imagine you'll want to be earning more than you're on at the moment. Don't undersell yourself! There's no harm though in explaining that because you haven't got any experience, but you'd like to be given the chance to prove yourself, that you're willing to except a lower salary and then have a review a few months down the line...

thanks, the ad said £16k, id happily accept 14 or at least 13k as that is what i should be on at the moment(for another time), plus the distance doesnt seem as far so less petrol

I guess the thing that is on my mind is that have tehy invited me for interview to make up the numbers or have they invited me because they like what they saw from the cv,

An update, went for the interview and i think it went well, i mentioned about experience and they said that wasnt vital as they're systems are bespoke so someone with no experience would start from first base,
