Is Bankruptcy the answer for me??

Hi all
Im new to all this so please be patient with me...
What a mess I'm in, and i really don't have a clue where to start...
For years I have been running up debts, and then running away from them by moving house etc.... I last moved 4 and a half years ago, into a house with my hubby and two children (aged 19 and 12) the mortgage is just in my hubbys name.
I ran away from approx £35,000 (I know, that is disgusting!!) at my old house, and recently the new owners came to my house screaming and shouting about them being harassed by 'bailiffs' and getting debt letters for me, which they have opened.. I need to deal with this now, and have registered for my credit files (as I can't even remember who I owe debts to at my last address!!) my credit files for my previous address are clear tho?? Maybe because it has been more than 6 yrs since defaults etc...?? Anyway, I have contacted the debt collection companies (on the letters she THREW at me,) by Email, as Im hoping these debts are now statute barred, and that is what I have said on the Emails ( I await a response) in the meantime, I have also run up £30,000 of loans and credit card debts in my new address (gosh I'm cringing here writing this....) and Hubby didn't have a CLUE!! I'm now on the verge of a breakdown, have been put on anti depressants, am awaiting appt with counsellor, marriage breaking down at an alarming rate, and to be honest, I have contemplated suicide on more than one occasion (my love for my Children stops me tho)
I am going to have to move out of here, and rent a flat or something. I work, and earn approx £14500 P.A but with all the Public Sector job cuts, I'm not sure how much longer my job will last to be honest... I'm also drinking myself stupid at least twice a week too.....
What the hell do I do???
Bankruptcy?
IVA?
DMP?
I just wanna sort myself out once and for all.....
Thankyou all for listening..

Right, firstly im sending you a huge huge cuddle because youre in a right pickle arent you eh.

Secondly, i can promise you that you will get so much support here that you wont know what to do with it all, and thats a true promise.

Please hang around on here tonight if you can as everyone tends to be on later and ask away. You know what youve got to do. You also know that this has to stop.

Whats the worst that can happen eh? Thats the way i look at it.

How did you manage to run up credit at your new address if you had so many other debts. I take it all of these debts are yours and no one elses.

    Be back later.

I understand how you feel i have debt of £50k which has built up over a period of six years from a bad business venture, i have tried to carry on and didnt tell my husband about the mess i was in. It came to the point that i could carry on like you wanted to take my own life but the idea of leaving the mess with my husband and daughter stopped me. I sat my husband down and told him everything which i was dreading we hadnt been getting on, but after i told him he has been my rock and amazingly marriage is improving i can finally see that the pressure i was under and not sharing was actually the cause of the tension in our marriage. Like you i started drinking at an alarming rate but know im sorting things out ive stopped the occasional glass. There is light at the end of the tunnel and when you have made the decision dont stop keep fighting.

I spoke to CCCs Payplan and CAB and the best solution for me is bankruptcy i have my date on the 10th November, and i feel so much better in myself for finally starting to sort this mess out

jaymo...the bankers have run up billions of £s of debt and all are still getting million pound bonuses,,,, what you have done is nothing compared to those scumbags...i hope you look at it and think sod it i am allowed one mistake in life...get yourself sorted and then get on with life because its too short to worry... i dont have any debt or never have but i think 50k is nothing compared to what the top people have got away with....good luck,.
It is nice to see the value of your house going up'' Why ?
Unless you are planning to sell up and not live anywhere, I can;t see the advantage.
If you are planning to upsize the new house will cost more.
If you are planning to downsize your new house will cost more than it should
If you are trying to buy your first house its almost impossible.
  • Keep your head up! As people have said before, we all make mistakes and all problems have a solution. Im currently saving my fee's for my bankruptcy application. I was so worried about telling my partner but she's been so supportive now!

    All the best!
