500 quid (god knows how as have worked for the same company for 30 years)
The figures in the letter were all wrong and it was saying i had earned 10k more than i actually had ,luckily i still had p60 and end of year wage slip
It was also saying i had paid 2k more tax than i actually had done so i tried to get them to pay me it back ..no luck there
Surely they must check these figures against your p60 !!
Anyway 5 weeks later they now say i owe them 84pHave a nice day0 -
I have just received a tax bill for £7400 for years 08/09 and 09/10. During that time I had 2 jobs and both employers were aware of each other; that being the case is it not the 2nd employers' responsibility to ensure they have informed HMRC so that the correct tax code can be applied to my salary? I was retired on ill health last year and now live on a NHS pension and a very small civil service pension; I am also disabled due to military service so receive a war pension and have a car on the mobility scheme. How am I supposed to repay any deficit?0

Sorry to hear that, but I think it is your responsibility to ensure you pay the correct tax.
Presumably you were getting 2 personal allowances, did you not realise this?0 -
No i didn't. Am writing to HMRC and sending as much information as I can regarding my current status.0

An underpayment of £7400 is more than duplicated allowances. You must have been underpaying some at 40% to attract that level of underpayment over 2 years? If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !0
