Why don't you just say: "I just wondered what the situation was in the afternoon about lunch, because at home i'd just eat when I finished at 1pm, (ahem!) and I really fancied walking around the Christmas Market.." /angelic look.

If they say you can't go then I think you just have to be gracious, or never be invited again.

I really have to agree. It may be that they have never really thought about it, but I do believe that suddenly getting all "I finish at 1pm and this is my time" could result in "Fine, next year you will be finishing at 1 pm in England". And if you'd be happy not to be invited again in the future then that's ok, but I rather got the impression that the jaunt is welcome and you'd prefer to keep it! So I don't think it's out of order to ask it, but I would keep it very low level and low key. That way nobody gets their nose out of joint over what is supposed to be a fun occasion.

Raise it now, tell them you have been looking on-line and there is a fantastic Christmas Market nearby, a great chance to buy some really authentic gifts "perhaps we can all go together, that would be a good ice breaker for the evening party" see what reaction you get.

  • Thanks for all your replies - I think i might go with the last suggestion and say that i'd like to go and see what happens

I know it sounds really cheeky because they are taking me over etc but all i did last year was sit around talking about movies at the cinema and got very bored very quickly - i woulndt mind working but there isnt any work i can do (I cant access my work in germany, similarly my colleagues dont work when they come to visit the UK. I'd rather head off exploring if im not needed :j
