17" tft monitor Aldis....or not?

Been looking forward to getting this for a couple of weeks but highly disappointed when I went to my local store in Colne. There were plenty there today but not the kind which they've been advertising which said 'VGA input' - these were theSXGA are d-sub only............anyone else had the same result or is it just unique to my local Aldi????

firstly SXGA is the resolution (1280x1024) of the screen. This is a typical res. for a 17". The connection is the standard "vga" d-sub 15pin, which is what I would guess you have.

There was an earlier thread on this with the conclusion that the price is no longer that competative for a 17" monitor. Indeed, you can collect at store a 19" widescreen from PCWorld for £129.99.

    Hope this helps,

The monitors in store in Aldi Milton Keynes were EXACTLY as advertised.

ie http://uk.aldi.com/special_buys/product_411.html (though you'll have to be quick to see this link as it'll vanish by Friday as Thursday's offers become history).

ie VGA input = via an analogue D15 pin connector like every other 'VGA'/analogue connector in the last 10-15 years. They NEVER claimed to offer the potentially better DVI digital video interface on this model.
    Brightness 300 CD/m2
    Horizontal viewing angle of 150°
    Vertical viewing angle of 135°
Maximum resolution 1280 × 1024 - ie 'SXGA' in the resolution codes
    On screen display
    Universal line power
    Sub-connection cable
    Fixed audio cable
    Response time 8MS
    Contrast ratio 700:1
    SXGA LCD colour monitor
    2 built-in speakers

BOUGHT one of the 4 left at 11am for a friend as it's covered by a three year warranty, plus Aldi's usual one year return with receipt for a no quibble refund if you're not happy with your purchase (as confirmed with deputy manager on the tills).

Haven't tested it yet as wanted to leave the friend SOME "open the box" enjoyment for their meagre £99.99.

And personally I would have bought a Hanns-G 19" with DVI for around £120-£130 but friend was adamant they wanted only a 17" and at that price the Aldi was completely unbeatable.

Incidentally if you are buying a Widescreen model - eg 1440 x 900 (rather than 1280x1024) do make sure before parting with your £££ that you know how to get your video card/circuitry set to match that resolution or you'll be frustrated - ie it'll either be a native resolution or you'll need some tweak/driver that does support that resolution.

my hannsg arrived yesterday. Not too bad, but I do feel that it is a budget monitor, mainly the build quality and styling. A bit of backlight bleed from the top edge but otherwise I'm happy with it. £140 next day from Misco.
