I've not done much crafting for christmas yet, and not made many cards yet.
but i've had a lot of fun making boxes up for underprivalaged children abroad.
They dont cost a lot, infact the ones for babys are real cheap, tesco sells, it's own brand stuff for as cheap as 11p for baby lotion, and last week i got loads of clothes for 19p - 50p which made the boxes look good.
here are my boxes

Well boxes done, and me very pleased with them last night.....
today not so much, i did the boxes for na old lady at work, she goes to the deaf club and at work they have done them a for a few years.
I got no information before i did them, and was just told about ages, newborn, young ones, children about 7 then children about 11. (the lady said she's done newborn babies before) so i made my boxes blind.
Well when i gave my boxes over, the lady (she's 85) handed me a leaflet and it's for Samaritans purse, which has no mention of babies, plus it also says in the
No Thanks section,
1 - no clothing
2 - no liquids ie shampll, toiletry and aerosols
3 - no chocolate
well as you can see, i put
1 - plenty of clothing in, (at least most pieces were only 19p from tesco)
2 - i put shampoos and creams for baby, and aerosol deodorants, i cellotaped the lids down, and put them in plastic bags.
3 - i got chocolate eclairs
So i do have to say that at this moment in time i don't feel good about my boxes.0 -
I did something similar last year for the local women's refuge, I had only just found out that our town had a refuge and Christmas was fast appraoching so I contacted the refuge and asked if they accepted donations and they did. I wasn't allowed to wrap anything but I turned up with an array of stuff for children and women such as jigsaws and colouring books for children and notebooks and hand cream for women. I didn't spend an awful lot but was careful about what I bought and found some excellent items in Home Bargains. If you want the rainbow, you've got to put up with the rain :wave:0

Also, you are not to cellotape the lids down because they check all the contents then they put their seal on them. Plus you also have to donate £2.50 for each box to cover their costs. I think its either a cheque within the box or donate online and put the reference number you are given within the box.0 -
what a great idea they look lovely and i bet they will be very much appreciated:xmastree:Is loving life right now,yes I am a soppy fool who believes in the simple things in life :xmastree:0

LOL i cellotaped the tops down to the sprays and the baby creams, then put them in clear bags and taped these down.
It does say on the leaflet that there is a donation of £2.50, but it does say, 'One cheque can cover multiple shoebox donations'
So i'm wondering if the deaf society that mine were taken to, send a cheque in, covering all of the boxes that they send in.
Got my mind wondering loads now, not sure if i'd do another one for these next year.
May look a little bit closer to home, not sure what yet.0
