Help!! Urgent!

I think I may have just been stupid enough to get a default notice.

I have had trouble getting statements and have got in a real pickle with a catalog. Anyhow, I have phoned them up, made a payment today but they have told me I now have to pay the balance and they have written me a letter of default.

Is there anyway I can turn this around. I really don't want a default on my file. Late payments are enough!

  • By the way, it's for about £80. I am gutted because hubby wants to get a mortgage in a year or two (though we are not financially associated AFAIK).

Don't worry too much - if you have a default it should not affect your husband's chances of getting a mortgage as you are not financially linked.
To be honest, it probably would not have affected it even if you were financially linked as mortgage lenders would, generally, look at the wider picture.
Are you sure that the catalogue has entered a default - sometimes creditors threaten, but just to put pressure on for payment.
The best way to check would be to check your credit rating with the credit agencies - this will cost you £2.00.
Whatever you do - it's not worth getting into a state over it.

    glad you said that rog,

I did post ( then delete!) that Im sure Ive had loads in my time, and it doesnt seem to have done my credit rating much harm in all fairness. *shrugs*

In saying that though Catherine, are you struggling in other ways? You said you were in a tizz with the payments, did you struggle to find the money for them? Only we can help with looking at your outgoings if you like :)
