BT's "monthly payment plan"

For the past 12 months I've been paying £38 per month to BT for my package. My recent bill had a few extra calls on outside of allowance, etc and now they have decided that to cover my new bill of £152.41 that I now need to pay them £70 a month...
I Pay monthly but get billed quarterly.
£152.41/3 = £50.80 a month not £70!
Does anyone know the best way to approach this with BT as I am not prepared to pay more than necessary to cover my bills and their website wont allow me to set my payment amount because it is under their recommended figure of £70.
thanks in advance for help

Calling them usually helps. They seem to come from the angle that the entire bill must be paid as the next one is sent out which makes for some complex calculations. I'll try and explain... Your bill is normally £38 times 3 = £114 however this quarter you overspent by £38.41. That £38.41 is divided by 3 (£12.80) and added to your monthly payment of £38 which makes £50.80 but then it assumes you are going to continue to go over by that amount so adds it again which should be £63.60. However you may already owe them a bit maybe around £20 which is divided by 3 and added to the £63.60 which is what is bringing it up to £70. eeeekkkk the times I've spent on the phone to BT. To me it's as if they want the money for line rental 6 months in advance but they don't get it.
Or you could give up trying to figure it out and pay the whole bill when it comes in......as I have done.:footie:Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)
Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money.

Thanks, I had a feeling it may have been something along those lines. I just wish the website was a little more user friendly. BT shouldnt assume anything...0 -

Exactly 100% agree. If it gives you the option to pay the excess then it "may" allow a lower monthly direct debit.
I'm now considering the next plan of action.. I really don't like calling BT to explain this sort of thing as I usually get through to an offshore centre and spend the first 5 mins repeating my query...
Calling them usually makes an annoying situation even worse due to sheer frustration!0 -
Change to Monthly Whole Bill Direct Debit.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0
