baking basket for kids

I'm thinking of doing baking baskets with a theme for the kids in our family this year, so far its mostly princesses or football.
I've got a cake storage tin, a themed cookbook, some themed cup cake cases, a cookie cutter and some themed rice paper cake toppers. Any suggestions for cheap things I can add to bulk it out?

  • How about an appropriately coloured spatula and maybe some silicone cucake cases? Poundland had both last time I looked in.

    Or an apron?

I love the idea though, and might have to steal it!

  • I didn't think of a spatula, I could even look for a mixing bowl too. I tried poundland for silicone cases, but they only had orange ones and only 6 for £1, which at the time didn't seem great, 12 would be more useful, maybe its the thought that counts more.

  • Last year I made them all chefs hats with this free pattern http://www.youcanmakethis.com/info/free/FREE-Child-and-Adult-Size-Chef-Hat.htm They also have free patterns for pot holders and oven gloves if you can sew, and I bought cheap plain white aprons and sewed on pockets in fabric to match the hats. I've bought some princess and fairy baking books on amazon, about £5 each, and bits and pices I'll get from either ebay or https://www.cakescookiesandcraftsshop.co.uk
Or how about this to start off your baking set http://www.wilkinsonplus.com/Kitchen-Utensils/Cooksmart-Kids-Fun-Chef-Set/invt/0257099?htxt=PsAGyAqy%2FDSGVBgOHPBfATKVETOKIWHcwqoICuDrG%2FxTcDPfxIrYzUvEu76RzzM6wutKTeo9AOCB%0AtDs76aYYKg%3D%3D they do other cheap baking stuff too, or how about Asda?

    You could add

    an Apron
mini wooden rolling pin, wooden spoon, mini whisk, (wilkinsons have these cheap)
one of those cup cake mixes
loads of cake decorations, my two find the decorating the best bit of baking choc chips, mini marshmellows, rainbow sprikles, pink glimmer sugar (2 for £1) at asda at the min, Icing pens

If you have a home Bargins near you they have lots of cheap cake decorations in there
  • Also, how about some edible glitter?

They have some new baking bits in our Morrisons, I picked up some white edible snowflakes and some sparkly sprinkles (Christmas colours) for £1.. They also sell fudge chunks which go lovely in cookies! :D
So much for 'Money Saving' ;)
  • What about little bottles of food colouring, they're fairly cheap and will add some bulk as well as some colour. I did a baking hamper for my niece last year and she loved it, I also included a couple of those packet mix cakes, I know they aren't brilliant but her mum isn't into baking so much and I thought these might ease her into realising how much fun both the making and tasting could be.
Wilkinsons had some nice aprons for kids, I also included some measuring spoons that were around 19p in Home Bargains.
Trying to be money neutral for christmas
