What took over from the endowment?

Hello, Im asking this for a friend who was considering a interest onlt mortgage.

I know that lots shortfalled and there was bed media press at the time. So do they still exist? and are they more guaranteed on the completion date?

    Nothing took over.

    There are a number of ways to save you need to save about the same as a repayment anyway at least untill you know the investments are working(or not) so why do interest only.

    Could paying into a ISA be used as repayment?

    ISA, Pension, Endowment etc. Most lenders will no longer allow Interest Only at all above 75%, and even where it is allowed many have started charging higher interest rates.
