Hello all.
I'm in a bit of a conundrum. I have been employed I'm my current job since febuary. It's a call centre job it's not glamours but I amvery grateful to have had work in the current climate.
I applied for a job that was in relation to my degree about a month ago. The good news is they called me yesterday and offered me the job, it's a perfect job for me so naturally I accepted.
However they want me to start on monday. I'm aware that the current notice period is a month for my current job. I really don't want to leave on a bad note because as i said. I am grateful for the job I have had.
Any thoughts on how to address this situation?

Talk to your current employer? Talk to your future employer? Some give and take on both sides needed here.
If you leave without notice it could affect your reference (even if its already been done) and in theory you could be sued for the cost of replacment (advertising, temp wages) etc, though this often costly to do so it does not happen.

Cheers vader. Even tho my current employer don't give refs, they just confirm dates worked do they can't get sued for liable! They do have a very high staff turnover as it is and already have new people in training.
Thing is with my new job I need to go on a training course which is either next week or next summer! Predicament!0 -
Do you have any untaken annual leave? Maybe they'd be willing to let you use that up - it's worth asking0

Only got a couple of days left unfortunately. Otherwise that would have been an option.0

Just have a word with your current boss and explain the situation. I used to work in a call centre in Exeter and there was a huge rate of turnover, people leaving suddenly with a few days' notice and new joiners arriving all the time. Don't think they'll be that concerned.0

I would speak to your new employer and explain that you have to give a month's notice. Most employers should know this anyway! How flexible do you think they would be?0

Maybe a bit outside the box here but....
You could get next week off work from your current employer and attend the course from your new employer but tell your new employer other than that you still have to work a months notice and that week has been taken as leave.
That way you attend the course and have the months notice tho you will have to use your remaining leave to get the week off.
To be honest thats a complicated way of doing it and I would only do it if I really felt I owed it to my employer. If you spoke to your current boss maybe they may just say that your "career" comes first and they have a high turnover so move jobs and no hard feelings. I am sure if your relationship with your boss is good then they would understand the situation.Here to help and be helped!0
