Why does the letter have this line? I thought the whole point was to have the defaults taken off?
• It is requested that if you intend to default the account, the default entry must be <Date if your bankruptcy>, in accordance with the Data Protection Act.
Thanks

No. Bankruptcy doesn't mean that you can demand that defaults are removed.
The point is to make sure that:
1) Any defaults are dated on or before the date of your bankruptcy order. That means that they will come off your file by the time the bankruptcy order itself does, leaving you with a clean file after 6 years.
2) Any defaults are marked as settled in the meantime.Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB

oh, ok so the defaults still have to be marked as settled.
I thought they could just maybe make it with the date of the DRO and still leave the status as defaulted.
Thanks, I hope they realise that they must still mark the account as settled.0 -
The entry should still stay marked as "defaulted" even after the DRO or bankruptcy.
But they should also in addition mark the entry as settled or partially settled.Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB
