Preserving jars

I recently bought a set of 4 Tala preserving jars from Argos. Got them home, picked all my beetroot, cooked it and made the vinegar then filled the jars. I turned them upside down to make sure they were airtight and the bree poured out of them! In the end I quickly sterilised some jam jars and used them.
My question is can anyone reccomend jars that are airtight?

did they have rubber seals?
you cannot use rubber selaed jars for anything with vinegar in them anyways, it persihes

Yes they do have rubber seals. I take it then that they are only for jams etc. They are advertised as 'preserving' jars. Even with jam I wouldn't be comfortable using them as they are not airtight.
I'm going to get some of the ones you have put in the link they look great. Thanks for that.0 -
with jams, marmalades and things like lemon curd, if you are in doubt, use a wax disc on the top (put it on when the filling is hot)
and with things like relish & chutneys, use a thin layer of olive oil on the top
pickles just need to be covered in vinegar and the tops on
they will keep for years0
