Tax rebate

Can anyone help. I was declared bankrupt in september 2009 then discharged early in June 2010. I have filed my self assements for the past 5 years in June 2010. Although I work for a company I have claimed for all my business miles as my employer pays me 10p per mile so I claimed the difference. HMRC have sent a cheque for £6,845.00 to the Official Receiver. I have explained to them that this is for business miles and I want it back. They have said they received a cheque with no explanation as to what its for etc and need to see proof, even then they may or may not pay me as they say it may be an asset of my bankruptcy although discharged. I have gave them copies of my self assessment claims that HMRC sent me to show them. The OR are saying it doesn't explain enough as to how the figure has come about. I am stuck between to large organisations of which HMRC are saying that's all we can send and the OR are saying it doesn't help them. The statements show my top line over the year, then minus expenses therefore I have paid too much tax of a certain amount for each year. My 1st question is, can the OR keep this money even though I have expensed a company car on average of 30,000 miles a year ? Also can any one advise on what I need to do next. Although the OR seems helpful I sense they are trying their best to keep the money. Please Help
