Hi all
Just wondered if anyone had orchids for their flowers?
Did you have real or fake? How much were they?
If you had fake ones, where did they come from?
My fiance would love them, but I'm worried real are too much money and silk look too fake.
Hmmmmm... who knows?!?!?

What time of year are you getting married as this will make a difference to the price of real orchids...they can be very expensive if you want a huge bouquet of them but they are also a flower that you wouldn't need a lot of to make a lovely bouquet to carry....it is easily the type of flower that lends itself to the phrase "less is more"!....they are a very delicate flower but will hold up ok for a wedding
On the other hand the artificial orchids are very good and would be a lot easier to have than fresh orchids and you have the bonus of the flowers being everlasting ...but I guess its all down to personal preference....
I would suggest to talk to a florist who can give you some options as there are many orchids to choose from of all prices...
I got married during June and my mum wanted orchids for her corsage..the ones she wanted were out of season and rather expensive, but it all depends what and how many you need...frugal October...£41.82 of £40 food shopping spend for the 2 of us!

I'm going for fake flowers for my wedding (Roses) but instead of silk, they are made of foam and the samples I got look amazing - (from ebay). So another alternative for silk could be foam.
You have to see them to appreciate them really foam flowers sound naff until you see them!:kisses2: Got married September 2011:smileyhea

Thanks guys.
We're getting married in April 2012, so I think I will need to talk to a florist again. The thing is though, when I spoke to them before, they said that a shower bouquet of orchids would be about £100-£120!!! Argh!!!
I think I'll look on ebay for foam orchids, that's something I hadn't thought of.First date 10.2.2002

I got married in September & had moth orchids, roses & singapore orchids in my shower bouquet - all fresh. The bouquet cost about £110.0

I bet that was beautiful Floss. I'd love to have real, but £110 is the same cost as my reception hall!!!
I'm paying for my wedding myself, and my job's not very secure, so I'm really trying to do it low budget if I can!!!
ETA: Also, a florist told me that orchids don't survive well in bouquets and will be very wilted by the end of an evening reception. Did you find this? Thanks!First date 10.2.2002

Orchids are indeed a delicate flower but being careful with them will mean that they last the day...they ar'nt the most robust flower for a fresh bouquet but there is no reason why they wouldnt last if treated with care.
If your budget is limited why not think about having an artificial bouquet....there are some nice styles and different prices on ebay ...keywords orchid and wedding bring up lots of combinations...something like this is very pretty

if you want an orchid theme you could always look at button holes or cake toppers...again they have some lovely reasonably priced ones on ebay.frugal October...£41.82 of £40 food shopping spend for the 2 of us!

Thanks LEJC. I think we will be having silk, but my OH is a bit worried that they won't look "good enough" (Blimmin fusspot... they'd be good enough if he had to organise them!)
There are some lovely ones on ebay. I think I may order just a buttonhole to see what the fake orchid is like, then go for the bouquet depending on what we make of the buttonhole.First date 10.2.2002

No, mine were fine and it was a roasting hot sunny day. The hotel put them into their cold room overnight & I took them to the local crem the next day to lay on my parents' memorial.0 -
I got sample foam roses from 'thebridalworkshop' on ebay someone else on here recommended them.
There also maybe local shops who do them that you can go and have a look at.:kisses2: Got married September 2011:smileyhea

I got all my flowers from the bridal workshop, my bouquet was orchids and roses with ivy, they were stunnng and very lightweight. My brother had real orchids on his tables and in the bouquet etc, but the bouquet tended to sort of fall apart later on, and the beauty of fake is you can keep or resell!!0
