in Cutting tax
Hi All
I am very confused at the moment. What it is I rang the Inland Revenue requesting an employment history sheet for 07-08 08-09 09-10.
I was self employed in 08/09 and on the sheet it says no data held for this year.
I have to re do my last three self assessent forms again and I have my wage slips showing how much ive earnt and how much tax ive payed through CIS.
I have lost some of my wage slips and I am sure I did some work through an agency paying through CIS but I cant find the documents, again it isnt on my employment history.
Is their any other way I can find out what ive earnt through CIS, also would it be best if I went into my local tax office so they can help me file my assesments online?
Also if filed on line do you get a rebate for PAYE and CIS at the same time?
Thank you so much for your help

You have to request any CIS details in writing. Employment history letters will only show PAYE info.0

Thank you for your reply, i never knew u could request CIS info. Who do I ring for that please?
Also if i made an appointment at the tax office would they have all this info on their systems?

No, the CIS details are a specific office (which I'm pretty sure is in Northern Ireland somewhere). Your local office won't be able to help and the phone lines will just tell you to write in.0

thanks for the reply jimmo
I was earning massive ammounts of money. Through one job i earnt £8200 and payed tax through CIS which I have the documents to prove. Its just some other job ive done I got no idea where the paperwork went, but sadly I had a fire at my old house which destroyed a lot of my paperwork for various things.
So I wanted to know if their was anyone I could contact to get all the info regarding my CIS employment. Ive always payed tax at 20% so with me doing this i thought some record would be held somewhere0 -
Any half-decent agency would still have the CIS slips, why not ask them for them? I do CIS returns for several contractors, if any sub-contractor rang me and asked for copies from 3 years ago my answer would be "Give me an e-mail address and you can have them in 5 minutes." Also the contractor has very onerous requirements in terms of submitting returns by 19th of each month or getting hit with an automatic £100 fine. I don't know the exact rules on CIS records - might just be the 6 year rule as with other records - but in view of the onerous requirements any CIS agency not keeping excellent records stands to get fined thousands of pounds with nowhere to run on an appeal.Hideous Muddles from Right Charlies0
