engagement ring birmingham

Aftere 30 years of marriage i am now to get an engagement ring!
We are thinking of spending max £1500
I would like to go to Birmingham jewellery quarter but am not keen on trudging from shop to shop and the embarrassment of constantly walking oout although will have a good look in the windows.
Am not sure what style I want (probably a single diamond or a row of three) and really I would like some recommendations of where Moneysavers have gone - shops with a good selection of stock and value for money and helpful stall - would rather have all that than hours of searching for best value ring - my husband absolutely hates shopping!

I trawled Birmingham's Jewellery Quarter earlier this year in search of wedding rings, but with an eye on the engagement rings as I wanted to try and match the two.
Out of all the shops I visited, I have to say I found the friendliest staff in Neweys. They have a large range, not necessarily the largest, but I was really comfortable in there and got exactly what I had the budget for, and was very pleased with the outcome!0 -
i personally would look out for local jewellery auctions, cut out the middleman and with the way things are there will be more people selling off their valuables so you would get one worth a great deal more for your £1.5k,
here's a cracker that sold for £1600

I bought a ring from Wards on Vyse Street in the summer. I trawled the whole of the jewellery quarter, won't be doing that again!
The ring was made from an emerald I chose from them. Couldn't decide between yellow or white gold but they helped me choose by showing me the stone in a white gold setting and in a yellow gold setting.
Am delighted with ring's quality and with the price.

For diamonds, if you like something unusual and very expensive such as the Asscher cut, go to Bicknells on Vyse Street but you'll pay a high price there.

For me, I would go to Wards again.0 -
I would go to right to the far end of the main street (i forget the name of the road).
I have bought 3 or 4 things from BJQ & although I looked at all the shops the better prices & staff were at the far end & it is a hell of a lot less busy. Not Again0 -
I always end up at Bicknells although I am aware you do end up spending more there. The work is top quality though. Alot of the shops are buying second hand from people getting rid of their gold so you might get a bargain that way. Be prepared though it is the gold content you are paying for. I wanted to buy DD a diamond pendant as we had done for her sister and the price had gone from £220 to £480 in 3 years...:eek:0

Just wanted to say, you might get even more responses if you posted in the Special Occasions > Wedding board...:grinheart It's Mrs Coupon now - saving and comping my way to a brighter future :grinheart0

Have you thought of buying second hand? A large part of the cost of a new ring is tax. We got mine in a pawn shop decades ago. Gawd knows what it must be worth now as rings seem so expensive nowdays.0
