Visit to a scrap yard

We’ve just watched Scrapheap Challenge on Channel 4 with my son. Quite like to visit one of those scrap yards, if possible. Does anyone know a scrap yard in Surrey or Hampshire, which allows people inside? Do they let children in?

As a kid I went to a breajers yard quite a lot and climbed all over the wrecks. We thought it was excellent fun.

Can you imagine now though, allowing kids to roam freely in a breakers yard? The H & S People would be doing a bit in their pants at the thought of it. So I'm not sure any breakers yard would allow kids in to roam around the place. Also remember that the stuff on thye TV is staged!

try giving your local scrappy a ring and explain what you want to do,perhaps suggesting that 'would it be possible to have a tour around with one of the staff'

Scrap yard may well be difficult . They don't encourage the public any more, but think reclimation yard.
  • The ones round here won't let adults walk round them, let alone kids.

  • I know health and safety has stopped most scrappies, if you can go a bit further to Dorset, Trents (Poole) still have a yard you can visit... £1 entry.
