    Hi, welcome to the site..

BR really isn't a 'last resort'....it is a process of debt reconciliation.

Struggling on, with zero life, trying to pay someone or other, burying head-in-sand over the debt...THAT is the 'last resort'....

But BR does involve addressing the issue of changing one's lifestyle.

Something which the OP seems prepared to face.

If the OP is preparing for BR, then I suggest some additional preparations as well.

If not done already, it might be an idea [if earning, especially] to open up one or two new bank accounts...of the BASIC type.

[my experience is with Co-op Cashminder accounts..internet banking, visa electron card, and a very BR-friendly service]

Heavy debts in the later years of one's life do present a more limited range of options for dealing with them.

have looked into new account but is it better to open after BR as this seems to be the consensus onthe site not really sure
sorry to ask but what does OP stand for new to this and still learning the abbreviations

    the OP is you.....original poster.

I mentioned opening a basic account pre-BR [I did...had two up and running] simply to ease transferring essential DD's, pay, etc....without rush or hassle.

No, mine weren't 'frozen'....since they were solely used for living expenses...and I wasn't hiding financial assets.....so OR had no interest.

Co-op are BR-friendly, l and are used to dealing with ORs...they even gave me an internal phone number to their department that deals primarily with BR.

An OR will only really be concerned about an existing account, if it still allows access to credit.....overdraught, cheques, etc.

Hence, the need for a basic account.

No offence to the Accepted 4 Cashminder but I would suggest that it would not be a good idea to for Deadinthewater to email him. He obviously has given some good advice on open forum but as a new poster we do not know him from Adam and cannot be sure that all his advise would be sound. It is best to keep things on open forum so that if something is not quite right then another poster can correct it and if you want to ask something that you don't feel confident about posting on open forum then PM 2 or 3 of the long standing posters and get an opinion from several people. If they all give similar advice then you know it is right and if someone seems a little off then you can check with someone else.

I hope I haven't caused you any offence A4C but it is for the OP's and your safety. I would also remove your email address A4C as you may find yourself with a lot of spam.
