Mortgage relief due to seperation

A friend of mine has recently separated from her husband and he has now moved out of the family home. She has a young child with her and the house that they lived in has a joint mortgage.
She will still be living in the house, and her ex has been suggesting that she can get something like some mortgage reduction or relief while she is still living in the house so that he only needs to pay child maintenance on its own. She is claiming working tax credit and childtax credit already......
Does something like this exist??

Not that I've heard of.
She needs specific divorce advice. From friends who have been through similar, all existing financial arrangements should continue until financial agreement is reached. After which she would be responsible for the mortgage and he would be paying her maintenance for the child. If she can't then afford to remain in the home, she may have to consider selling it, then she could expect a greater percentage of the equity as she needs to provide a home for the the child.
Legally speaking, he is responsible (as is she) to the mortgage lender for ensuring payments are made. He is in a no-win situation really, legally needs to make sure the mortgage is paid, but only liable for maintenance.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards.
