Thomsonfly - 'Sitting together' option

Hi,
Thinking of booking a flight on Thomsonfly for myself, OH and 5 year old. Is it worth paying the extra £30 (price for both to & fro journeys) for all of us to sit together? What are the chances of us not getting a seat together at the check-in desk? As long as there is 1 of us adult sitting with the little one, that should be fine.
BTW what is Thomsonfly like in terms of reliability and punctuality? The only budget airline we have ever flown in is Wizz Air and that was ok.
Thanks.

dont waste your money! the airline will not sit a 5yr old by themselves!:j0

Nope, don't waste the money. The airline won't put the 5 yr old without one of you, but as long as you get to checkin early, you have a 99% chance of being sat together. I have NEVER been split up in any flight I've been on.
As I said, just make sure you get to check-in early, 2-3 hours, and you will get sat together. It's generally the last lot of people that get split up, as they are filling the odd seats.0 -
I think it is outrageous that the airlines try to do this. For goodness sake dont pay! I think even if you turned up fairly late, they would have to seat one of you with your child.0

Many families do book and pay for this service, which can mean if you don't, even if checking in early, much of the seating is blocked off. Booking group seating means those people can check in towards the end and seats will have been reserved for them, although you don't get to pick exactly which seats.
If you are not concerned about all 3 of you being sat together then don't bother. If it is important to you then pay, for peace of mind and less rush to the airport.
Worst case would be 3 separate seats, in which case cabin crew would request passengers to shuffle around so the child is sat with one of you.0 -
We have flown with them a couple of years ago and arrived late. They tried to split us and I told them forget it. we have young children. they gave us the extra leg room seats at the front of the plane so we could sit together. I would never pay that extra to sit together. what a rip off.

Hi,
Thanks for all the replies. I will not pay for this option.
Cheers.0 -
i flew with mytravel, they tried to sell me sitting together and extra leg room, turned up early and got seating together and extra leg room both on the way out and back home, though someone did eye up leg room seats on flight and the airline stewardess wanted £15 each (not sure if a receipt would have been given...)0

I am just back from flying with Thomsonfly. I certainly wouldn't pay the additional cost to sit together as I think it is standard practise to seat everyone together when they check in together. They would never seperate a 5 yr old child from a parent/ guardian regardless.
Like others have said, I would check in early. I guess I am lucky cos I live a stones throw from Gatwick but was able to check in the night before and get my seats/ tickets sorted.
Observing the other passengers on the return flight, everyone that checked in together was seated together.
However, it is worth remembering that even if your seats are either side of the main aisle, Thomson consider these to be next to each other. But seeing as how there will be 3 of you, this shouldnt be an issue.
Sorry for the waffle and hope I have made sense!
:heartpuls CG :heartpulsEver wonder about those people who spend £2 apiece on those little bottles of Evian water? Try spelling Evian backward.0 -
The airlines have to try and sit families together it’s not a legal requirement but a code that I think most of them have to follow. The reason is that should an emergency occur the last thing they would want is people trying to find other members of their family at the other end of the plane instead of trying to evacuate the plane, in other words it’s a safety issue.0

Thanks crawley_girl and alanjuk for your comments. My OH always make sure we are early at the airport. We went to Amsterdam a couple of weeks ago. We were so early that the passengers for the flight before us haven't even boarded yet! :rolleyes:0
