Hi, please could some one give me some advice, I received a letter from mint credit this morning, stating I owe 1100 pound from a car accident I was involved in 10 years ago.
The accident was my fault but surely this was all sorted by my insurance company at the time.
I don't understand what this is all about? they say I need to pay it within 14 days. But I have never been contacted by the insurance company since. Please if any one knows what I could do please advise.
Many thanks

£1100 for what exactly?

The limitation period for PI claims is 3 years, so I reckon they can whistle for it. Also I think debts are statute-barred after 6 years so if nobody's mentioned it in 10 years you should be fine. I'd write back along these lines and copy in your insurer.0

Yep.
They are just hoping benjiboy doesn't realise that and pays up.
Section 11 of the Limitation Act 1980 specifies the 3 year limit on personal injury claims, so you could adapt the standard letter to suit that.Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB

Thanks for the replies, I will send them a letter.0

I wouldn't bother sending them a letter, I would just ignore it.Wedding 5th September 20150

just to follow on from this, I was away at the weekend and my partner gave me the wrong information, it was saying I was uninsured at the time, which is why they want £1100 for the personal injury claim, This is rubbish i was insured otherwise i would have been arrested for no insurance etc at the time, but they want proof that i was insured. Is there a way i can find out who i was insured at the time, because i tend to change my insurance yearly and can't remember.
Or is it best to ignore it as previous replies? thanks for your help.0 -
You can't be arrested for no insurance. You'd have your license endorsed, and a fine probably.
How did you pay your insurance? Debit card?...can your bank provide statements going back 10 years to see who you paid for car insurance. If not I don't see how you can find that info out!
But, as has been stated already, there is a time limit on PI claims, and if it was 10 years ago, they are well outside that time limit.0 -
ok thanks for your reply.0

I don't see why if as stated PI claim is subject to a 3 year rule that you should be providing any further personal information such as who you were insured with at the time.
I wouldn't provide any more info than necessary meaning that the claim is outside the time limit. Good luckMFW on your mark0
