Whats the colour / condition of the water like in the header tank ? If its brown / rusty and murky looking then that could mean that theres a lot of rust / debris in the water, which could cause the matrix to get blocked, my old 106 Diesel was like that, even flushing the matrix out didn't help much, would be ok for a day or so, then just get blocked again, there an absolute nightmare to change as well, dashboard out job !
Rear axles are a common problem with them as well, had to change one on my old boys car a couple of days ago, think thats the 6th i've done over the years now, £130 for fitting !! Glad i'm able to do it all myself !! christ.0 -
Hi Wooden....it is a bit murky/rusty...as I suppose it would be on a p plate! However 10 months ago the cooling system was completely flushed/cleaned etc....I have friends 150 miles away that could have done it for free but axle was so bad I didn;t want to drive it! On ringing around £100 (+ extra for brake bleed) + brake bleed+vat is the cheapest I could find....0

Ok....after freezing my n*ts off (& starting a new job with a commute! Not good..!)...my friend in Norfolk has reverse flushed the matrix. It was SO clogged that when the high pressure hose pipe nozzle was initially put in pipe it blew it out (!) as the matrix was So clogged! But we persevered....putting it in one pipe-let it run clear then in the other etc (so as to keep sediment moving)...too THIRTY minutes for water to run clear....so JUST flushing the matrix was the key....LOVELY hot/warm car now! Also replace the thermostat anyway as it looked like it was leaking slightly....
Thanks all for the advice! I've never seen water so dark brown (!)0 -
good news then! Glad it was a simple (and cheap) fix.
Just remember to keep the anti freeze/summer coolant mix ok all year round.˙ʇuıɹdllɐɯs ǝɥʇ pɐǝɹ sʎɐʍlɐ
