I want to buy an ereader. I'm looking at the sony touch 650 or a kindle. Does anyone have any experience of either of these to recommend and does anyone know of any cheap deals on either of these products.
Thanks

As far as I know the kindle is made, and only sold, by amazon so check their website for deals (there aren't any just now).0

I recently got aKindle and love it! It is only made and sold by Amazon and it cost me £109 delivered. I love it because you can download a sample of a book before you buy it - you get about the first two chapters which is useful and you usually know by then if you want to carry on reading it! Loads of books are currently free from the Amazon Kindle store. I got about 40 books all for nothing! They are mostly classics - I got all the Jane Austens, Brontes, some Thomas Hardy, Little Women, Anne of Green Gables set, Just William, Winne the Pooh and loads of others. Other books are quite a bit cheaper than the normal book - I got the new Jilly cooper for £3 odd. The Kindle is easy to operate and you can set the font size to whatever suits you best. The only thing I would say about it is that it doesn't have a backlight, but you can buy a case for it which does have a built in light - I am getting one of these for Christmas.
Another good thing about it is that you can e-mail microsoft office documents from your computer to the kindle - I use this when I am going to a meeting and it saves me having to print out loads of stuff - you can also annotate documents too. You get your own kindle e-mail address and you can send anything to it. I think you can also go on Facebook but I am not into that (too old!). Also has wifi and mp3.Jane

cheaper if you are not sure if ereading is not for you. Does not use "E-ink" display, but backlit LCD which some find a bit of a strain on the eyes, though I find it ok. it is not great in bright sunlight.
Only a 5" screen, light enough to hold in one hand for reading whilst laying in bed
It can also play movie files and MP3s.Never put off till tomorrow what you can do today!
Cos if you do it today and like it...You can do it again tomorrow..

I strongly suggest you try to have a look at some readers in the flesh as it were. (I realise you cant do that with a kindle).
I usually tend to buy Sony when it comes to electronics of all kinds but I saw some Sony ereaders instore the other day and really wasn't impressed tbh. I know lots of people have them and like them but that's where the personal taste comes in.
I'm saving up for a Kindle.Herman - MP for all!

Another kindle fan here, had mine for a few weeks and love it. If you do get a kindle sign up to jungle search and they notify you every time a free book is added to Amazon.
I bought the Amazon case with light aswell, very similar feel to holding a book with the case and the e-ink is great.0 -
I'll be asking Sensei Santa for a Kindle.0

how have u all got on with this.... i am debating between the sony 6" or the kindle... whats putting me off them is price for the sony, and monopoly of the kindle.
Has anyone with a kindle been able to download books from places other than Amazon? as i dont fancy paying for a book that is out of copyright like you have to with amazon (i know they do some free ones), I also want to use my library's ereader service (borrow a book to ur device instead of goinginto the library and forgetting to take the book back!)Living Simply, not simply living.Weight Loss - 5b/55lb

I have a kindle and I love it. You can use a free piece of software called 'Calibre' to convert e-pub (and other file formats) to the type the Kindle uses and read on them - but the e-pub files have to be non-drmed. I have done this with quite a few books and read them on my kindle without any problems.0
