in Cutting tax
Today I received a letter from HMRC explaining that I had underpaid 2.2k of Tax over the past 2 years.
I had worked for an IT company in a junior position where I was working shifts and office based. I was paying the basic rate of tax. I recently had to come out of work and am presently claiming incapacity benefit as my only source of income. I have a mortgage and a 3 year old.
What measures can I take to mitigate the financial pressure?
Are there any personal allowances that I am entitled to that I may be unaware of ?

have you checked?
do you have P45s P60s to hand?
can you post gross income, allowances etc
basically you will have been entitled to a personal allowance, each year, coding should have been something like 645L
we also need to know if you made any pension contributions etc
also we need to know the exact dates of things, when you started, when you finished etcDon't put it DOWN; put it AWAY"I would like more sisters, that the taking out of one, might not leave such stillness" Emily DickinsonJanice 1964-2016

Rule number 1 - accept nothing HMRC tell you as being true until proven beyond reasonable doubt. Reason - they are a shambles! I'd like to see them in the Boardroom with Alan Sugar!Hideous Muddles from Right Charlies0
