CRA - When do entries get removed?

hello,

with CRA's, I'm aware that after 6 years, a default should be removed.

Does the same apply for all entries with a CRA?

Looking at my profile, it just says that all entries remain until 6 years after an account has closed.

But should any individual entries be removed 6 years after they were entered?

I've got entries from 7 or 8 years ago showing up. The accounts are mostly now settled & closed, but have only been so for about 3 years, but should the older entries on these accounts be dropped off?

Thanks

Did you ever have a default registered on those accounts?

If not, then they stay on the record for 6 years from the date you settled them.

Experian (for example) show the last three years of account activity. So, should you close an account, then the last three years worth of payment details whilst the account was open will remain visible until the account itself drops off which is six years from date of closure.

Mostly not (a couple did) - but certainly in the early years I wasn't great at keeping up payments, so it doesn't make great reading, which is why I was hoping those early ones would now start dropping off :o( (therefore leaving what's left looking much better)

So, if you never closed an account, potentially you'd see the entire history of your account since it opened?

Thanks for the help & clarification

Thanks hax - that makes a lot of sense, as I can now see that with Equanti, it shows the last 4 years of activity.
Which means - in theory, payment history from almost 10 years ago could show on your account? Seems a little OTT :o(
(Was hoping that in about 3 years, I'd have a nice clean file as everything negative would have dropped off, leaving me open to apply for mortgage, which would be able the point at which I've saved enough of a deposit)

I know the feeling - I've a couple of card with late payments on that are still lurking - I could clear them but would then have those payments on record for the next six years so am keeping a small balance on them and paying them off slowly until the late payments drop off the radar which should be in the next 12 to 18 months ;)

For what it's worth, CallCredit display the last SIX years of account history - well, at least to the person who's report it is. Not sure what creditors searching the record will see...

I'm hoping that come the time I want to apply for a mortgage, they'll look at the fact that any adverse history is predominantly over 6 years old, and that I have plenty of entries between then and now which will be perfect. ho-hum

Like you point out, it's almost odd that if you keep they account running, it clears any adverse history sooner than closing the account.

Could it not be argued that entries older than 6 years are not regarded as relevant / up to date and have them removed?
