Not the time of year to be putting turf down - the first of the frost won't be too far away, and grass doesn't really grow after this. takes about 2 - 3 weeks to bed in properly, so don't waste your money! One hundred years from now it won't matter what kind of car I drove, what kind of house I lived in, how much money I had in the bank, nor what my clothes looked like but the world may be a little better because, I was important in the life of a child.0

I am no expert (you may be!) but, last year (Sept) when I moved into a new property I had to put my own grass down. I opted to wait until the spring and used seed but I can remember reading that it was ok to lay turf at any time of the year (apart from when the ground is frozen). I've just checked on the Web and found this:

Have a read of the bullet points near the top.
Personally, I wouldn't touch turf from B&Q. Long term, decent grass should give you less problems. Whenever i've seen turf in B&Q it's looked rather dead!0 -
I have just seeded my lawn last weekend.
According to the box, you can do it April to early October.
Whether it turns out to be right or not, i'll let you know in a few weeks but I hardly think they would say you could if its not true, afterall, they are the experts!!!

You can lay turf pretty much anytime, how else do new homes get a lawn? But dont buy BQ its !!!!!! even at 50p square metre.
I live in the Teesside area and use a company called Farnabys in Darlington it only costs £1.00 a square metre, It's class.
So Get your grass from a reputable dealerho ho couldnt resist it

New homes get a lawn from the buyer making an effort to put something decent down..Otherwise they just get a uneven mass of grass laid on top of bricks and rubble...i.e. my front 'lawn'. :mad:0 -
We had a new lawn laid on October 17th last year and it's the best front lawn in our entire street.
Better to lay it when it is going to be "too wet" rather than "too dry".
When it's cold it is fairly dormant, doesn't need cutting and can happily settle down undisturbed for a few months.
In late spring and summer it just wants to grow like hell and often hasn't developed a full root system to be able to adequately support this task without stressing the plant.
Admittedly it wasn't from B&Q and I can't comment on the quality of their turf. There are 10 types of people in the world. ‹(•¿•)›(11)A104.28S94.98O112.46N86.73D101.02(12)J130.63F126.76M134.38A200.98M156.30J95.56J102.85A175.93

I agree. And if you got the Daily Mail on Saturday then you may also have seen that now is the best time to rake an existing lawn and put down grass seed (for patching up).... gives it time to establish ready for cutting next year - plus no worries about keeping it watered.
Wouldn't buy from B&Q at whatever price. For a decent quality national company I think Rowlawn is possibly the best.0 -
Complete load of nonsense hizz!
Now is a great time to lay turf, to achieve a good lawn just make sure the surface you are laying it on is well aerated (spiked) and apply an autumn fertilizer (low in nitrogen). At this time of the year you are looking for good root development not quick leaf growth.
Grass roots are lazy, they will search out any air space to develop which is why we aerate (to 5-6 inches) forcing the root downwards to produce a stronger plant with a firmer hold.
Oh! and the b&q turf is not half bad for domestic gardens, just be selective with the turf and pick even depth of soil pieces.
Best of luck

I think you'll find that B&Q turf is delivered weekly & the day before fresh deliveries they reduce the price of the old yellowing stuff.0
