attachement to earnings

hope I have posted in the right forum.
about 7 years ago I got myself in a lot of money trouble, I had to sell my house and move back in with my parents, I debts just ignored until I got an attachment to earnings on a couple of them paid these for about 3 years, and made arrangements with the other smaller debts and paid all these off bar one which i still pay
I lost my job in june 2007, and made no more payments.
and I didnt hear from the company I owed the money too which is now a new company as the debt has been sold on.
they have sent about 2 letters out in this time asking me to arrange payment, the last one was the middle of last year.
I ignored these letters
I now have a letter from hull court titled
Attachment of Earnings - Request to Debtor for Employment Details
it says
attachment to earnings proceedings have been issued (and are in force) against you at the above court
the court has been informed you are no longer employed by XXXXX limited
the court believes that you have obtained employment.
I now have to fill in a n56 and return it without delay
what I am concerned about is why it has taken so long for this to be enforced? in the creditor section it does not say the companys name owed the money it just says various.
what is my best plan of action. ignore it? or fill it in?
or should I go to CBA and get there advice on my next course of action.
I owe about £20,000 in total and I am wondering if bankrupcty is going to be my best action to take, I did look into it before but the paper work seemed very complicated and confusing and I owed that much money out at the time I didnt know who or what I owed out.
while i am working at the moment with the way things are my weekly wage is up and down and the thought of having this around my neck again is frightening me.

just thought i would give you an update, i decided to telephone hull court and spoke to the enforcement office.
she was confused why this letter had been sent out to me, it seemed to be automated as they have no record of yorkshire bank been in touch to enforce it.
i told her the debt had been sold on and i have not made any payments to pheonix recoveries and only had 2 letters in 3 years requesting payment.
she seemed confused because yorkshire bank should of told them they had sold the debt so the attachment to earnings was cancled
she was going to speak to someone in the office and call me back to let me know what is going on.
not sure which way this is going to play out now0 -
You may need to chase her up in a few days. Whatever you do, dont ignore the forms as even if they are wrong, things will be worse to sort out. So if after chasing her up and you get no-where complete the forms before the deadline and state everything you know.
Don't ever ignore court forms.
As to whether BR would be the right thing for you, you really must speak to a FREE debt charity such as Payplan or CCCS. They can advise you on the best course of action.0 -
skylight this is a bit off topic but you say never ignore court forms well i recieved one small claims for £470 from council spoke to my advisor and she said just ignore it as i am waiting for a charge for payment. case due 17th dec she said i will get charge for pafment about feb then i can go br
