you are going to get £30 off points with it on here if you are boosting, making it £70 in boots money (adding a 5p item to basket)

I got one of these last year for my OH n a similar points event type thing.
Its made a great ornament, but in all honesty we find it pretty useless.

  • Ouchie they're pretty expensive aren't they!? I guess if you suffer from SAD then the money may not come into it, but what exactly is it that makes them so expensive??

I have no idea to be honest we bought an alarm clock one as DG does 12 hours shifts, and over winter never sees sunlight.
The light slowly increses / decreses in brightness simulating sunrise / sunset so that your body can sort of wake itself up, but it never worked, it also had a clock and audibe alarm on it but it was so quiet considering DF could sleep next to a nuclear bomb blast, so we reverted back to the several other alarms all going off at once.

I got this on the tesco deal having previously bought cheaper ones. I really recommend them - the light wakes DH and I up "naturally" without needing any noises. You feel far more awake too. I really recommend them to people who struggle with mornings - especially in the winter.

Its because it replicates sunrise and sunset and has a special type of bulb in it. I can heartily reccomend them, I hated waking with an alarm clock and this wakes me up in a far better mood. DH works shifts and it helps reset his body clock when he is home back to "normal" hours!!

Thanks OP - think I am going to get one for DS1 who is going through the teenage years of not getting up in the mornings!!

We've had these before, they work for DH but not for me.

When the lamps starting going in the old one, this time round we did a bit of homework and bought a daylight bulb with high lumens online, then stuck it in an angle poise lamp. It works for him the same as it ever did and cost around £30 including the bulb. It's more comforatble too, as we bought a bendy neck lamp so it can shine on him rather than having to sit staring into a bright light.

He works 12 hour shifts too, so puts it on before he goes to work to wake him up a bit.

We both use vitamin D from September onwards, that helps ME more than the lamp ever did.
