  • nowadays money is the main thing that is exchanged for kids etc.

indian sweets between adults is usually good stuff like gulab jamun, jalebi and habshi halwa

cards are nice so we know who the nice person was who sent us the lovely indian sweets we scoffed our faces on!

eid is gonna fall either next sunday/monday.....although some people could even do it on tuesday but theres not many of them.

i guess vouchers for somewhere like debenhams/house of fraser etc would be handy especially with the xmas sales coming up (im sure the women would appreciate this!)
men are always difficult to buy as always but we're not fuss....probably buy us a toolkit so we can put it in our sheds with the other 20 that have been bought for us throughout the years!

thanks for all your kind thoughts :)

Just wanted to say what a nice thread, my daughter is very close friends with a muslim boy at school......he has asked her to go to the prom with him, only one problem as she isn't muslim his parents aren't keen on my daughter (not being muslim) so, what a lovely idea for her to send a nice card to his parents. Thank you for that. :D

    To the OP:

I am sure any gift would be really welcomed and a kind gesture because you have (a) recognised or remembered it is their special time of year and (b) made/bought them something as a gift.

Hand made cakes, biscuits, sweets would be lovely but so would a bought gifts. To be honest, as long as it hasn't got animal products or alcohol in it then you'll be fine.

Generally at eid you would buy a new set of clothes, give gifts of sweets, cakes etc and small gifts of money. However as Eid is like a "muslim chrismtas" british muslim kids are often now subject to the same pressures as other kids at christmas. the latest gadgets, xboxes, designer labelled clothes etc etc. Even eid is becomming too commercialised!!

My children have asked for Eid presents in previous years, as well as Christmas and Diwali, because they celebrate them all at school!:) I was really proud of DD last year because she learnt songs in Arabic for a special school assembly!
I am going to make cards and probably a cake when I have remembered which recipe was my best one!

  • No - veggie gillaten is allowed, animal gilletin is not allowed in Islam. I think jelly is alright though?

there's a brand called ahmed jellys and they sell halal jelly .
    flavours: raspberry,strawberry,pineapple,banana and mango :)
  • A month ago on Eid ul fitr, i used primegiftservice for sending eid gifts in Pakistan online and it was my perfect choice, online secure payment options and free home delivery service was excellent, i strongly recommend them.
  • Hi everyone
I converted to islam many years ago and to see this post is amazing
I'm from france originally and my muslim friends are mostly algerian and moroccan
And we actually bake and cook for friends who visit us, for our neighbours
I never had present from non muslim so i find your initiative really nice
As for the eid date we usually dont know because it depends on moon cycles, it s eid when the new moon appears, next eid should be around 23rd sept in God willing
  • Any gift is great for Eid, from a decoration piece to a dress, sweets, cake, whatever suits your budget
