Why do people only pay the minimum wage

I have cleaned houses for the last 20 years,I started because I could drop the children to school go and clean then be there to pick them up again.During school holidays I could take them with me(they watched tv,played in garden ect).I decided to keep the cleaning going because most jobs here are min wage,I charge £12 an hour, all jobs are in walking distance, they provide everything I need.I love it they make me coffee and lunch,I receive great christmas presents/cash.When they go on holiday they pay me to keep an eye on the house(no cleaning) .I have been cleaning some of them for years,I am swamped with work.I love it.
can you come and do mine, please?0 -

For that kind of money, you should be making them coffee and lunch, I assume as soon as you go in, they roll the red carpet out, you put on your slippers and settle down to some mind numbing daytime telly- how very cosy0 -

As I said I love my job,I am treated very well(no red carpet;))they must be very pleased with my cleaning,I have been at one cleaning job for the last 18 years, one 12 years and quite a few for 6 years.:DI can never understand why people look down on people who clean, most people just want to survive and bring some money home.0 -
I'd happy pay a cleaner £12 an hour. Can't find anyone where i live.0

At least this cleaner is WORKING and not claiming unemployment benefits.
Fine let your company go without cleaners and see how long your business survives. Many of you high and mighty earners out there don't actually realise the reality if people like these didn't exist. Would hotels continue to function without kitchen porters and room cleaners?

For want of a horse the rider was lost.
For want of a rider the battle was lost.
For want of a battle the kingdom was lost.
And all for the want of a horseshoe nail.'Just think for a moment what a prospect that is. Maybe it is just an empty statement.
The point I was getting at is that this massive disparity within organisations goes unquestioned by those who are at the top and yet don't seem to realise how this disparity is observed by other parts of society.
The only way I can simplify it would be to have a small tribe who suddenly found that there most able group ( the young hunters) came back each day with a deer and then sat and ate the whole thing without sharing any ...Then wondered why the rest of the tribe felt no real obligation to do the more menial tasks.
Reward and responsibility go hand in hand in a society that wants some kind of cohesion.

I'm thinking of trying to get into doing that where I am. My cleaning job is going to be every morning 7 - 10.30 so I'm free pretty much all day every day, plenty of time to clean people's houses! Have to see how it works out as I'll need experience etc.“I could see that, if not actually disgruntled, he was far from being gruntled.” - P.G. Wodehouse0 -
