Engagement Ring Insurance?

Hello,

First post here :)

I wanted to ask where is the best place to get insurance for an engagement ring?

Thanks.

Mine is also on the home insurance. Covered for upto 30days at a time out of the country.

Had to specifically declare it due to the value (most house policies you have to declare anything in your home over a certain value, ours is £1000)

The general place to insure your engagement ring and any other jewellery is as part of your home insurance. You will need to check your policy as they do vary how much a single item can be worth.
Some policies will cover you outside the home but it is also worth seeing if you have accidental damage options on the policy as this will cover you also if you were to lose a stone which may be quite expensive to replace.

Anyone have any insurance outside of it being covered under home insurance?

I looked into taking a separate policy but it was too expensive and was a 3year policy. My home insurance gave the same level of cover for only a few quid extra a year. I was concerned that with a 3yr policy i would forget it was due, where as if its part of the house insurance it's listed on the schedule and i'll remember to include it in future renewal quotes.

Make sure you have a valuation certificate it is high value and the diamond certificate if it came with one. It was one of the questions we were asked by the insurers when we added it to the policy, as they would need to see those certificates if we ever needed to claim for loss of ring or the diamond.

I've a feeling my OH was offered special insurance on my engagement ring when he bought it - that's from Ernest Jones. Was terrible value compared to the cost of adding it onto our home insurance though so we never looked into it in much detail.
  • I am insured with TH March and annually it costs me £52.50 (my ring is valued at £1700). Hope this helps.

Asked More Than to quote for adding our engagement ring (£7k) - send our cover up from about £340 to £570!

The complication seems to be that their only "out of the house" cover for high value items is worldwide.

Our house insurance covers mine, also includes my wedding band as that's diamond set.
  • We use Hiscox, our regular comapany couldn't cover but Hiscox would,we insured ring separately until our renewal came up...and I think we now have it all with Hiscox
