Swimming shampoo v Normal shampoo?

Just been swimming and my hair smells of chlorine. (even with a swimming cap on) Am I really better of buying shampoo designed for swimming or is normal shampoo ok to use?

I swim quite a lot and find normal shampoo okay to use. I use conditioner aswell though and that helps get rid of the chlorine smell.
I think speciality swim shampoos are actually not that different and overpriced in comparison.

I did use normal shampoo today and my hair feels fine and doesn't smell.

I use normal shampoo and swim every weekday. I looked into special shampoos for swimming and realised that they are not suitable for coloured hair - they will strip it I imagine.

My hairdresser told me it's fine to use normal stuff too. About 15 or so years ago when my hair was its natural colour I used to use a special one from Boots but I reckon shampoos and conditioners today are better able to cleanse whatever gunk you've got in it, including chlorine.

If you smell chlorine still by the way it's as likely to be from your skin as your hair.
  • My 3 kids swim at a club, hairdresser moans about their hair but now says much better since using conditioner as well as normal shampoo.

Well I use the Boots swimming shampoo / body wash, not sure what difference it makes to my hair, but it DOES get the smell of chlorine off my body better than stuff provided by the gym.
