does OR check new acc?

Options
Hi, another question I need to bother you with.
I am going to open a new acc today (going br next friday) just wondered if the OR will want to look into this account? and how often?, its just my mum & dad are giving me £1000 to pay for my br fees and the rest with go towards the deposit/rent for the flat I am moving into this week, house being repossessed. I don't know wether to put this cheque into my new account or my halifax account(which has no debts but will be froozen I'm told) and withdraw all of it before court next fri?

what do you think?

the OR could well check any account you hold.

personally, i would pay it into the new account. even if the OR sees the deposit you can justify where the expense was so i wouldn't worry about it... :)
  • ok great I will pay it in new acc then.
everyone has mixed veiw's on here about when to open the br friendly acc, would you recomend doing it b4 or after the br court app?

i opened mine with the coop beforehand and it was fine. after court the OR rang me and i told her i was using that account she said that was fine and just took details. it was never frozen. in the past some people have had their accounts closed in Brighton, so unless you live near there i would say there is no harm opening it before, getting your DD's set up etc

just make sure it is the cashminder account with the coop or the basic one with Barclays

    good luck
  • ok great will def open barcley acc today then, would like to get as much done before the day re DD's/benifits etc, esp as I have to ring then for change of address may as well change bank at same time!
did you put new acc on BR forms or not?
So after you are BR does OR request statements from your new acc often?

yes, i put the new account on the br forms. just make sure you tell the OR as soon as you have contact with them that you need the account

i have no idea how often they check statements...depends how comfortable they are with the info you provide i suppose? i know it's hard to relax when you feel like you are being 'watched', i was cautious of every transaction 'ooh what will the OR think of my tesco shop' :D but you will eventually stop worrying and just get on with your life :) x
  • I can't imagine a life without worry! yet! I suppose everyone feels like this when your date gets near. thanks for your quick replies, now off to bank..........

Normally they don't check or ask you to provide statements after BR at all.

The OR is busy enough without continually checking on people.

The only time they may ask you to provide them or check into your account is when they have a specific reason to do so. i.e. they have a very good cause to believe there is something untoward going on. Otherwise, they just don't.

    Thats good news

My DH opened a Barclays account recently, all done in an hour and he had the debit card through less than a week later.

Good luck with everything for next week x
