Son's dilemma

I had a decision to make yesterday very similar to your son.

I am like him, an IT graduate but only my last job had relevance to what I want to do which was a Future Jobs Fund job that finished in September. I applied for a part time job for the work I want to do, and yesterday got an offer for it after an interview, and after the employer asking me to provide some sample work of mine. I also had an interview for a full time position yesterday, but it was not what I wanted to do although part of the role was related. I found out at the interview that I had another 2 stages to go through, if I was successful in getting the position. I ended up withdrawing my application for that job, and decided to accept the offer for the part time position. At the end of the day, the hourly rate was very much the same, but the full time position had more hours but restricted my future prospects. I decided I did not want to lock myself into something, which could come back to haunt me later on down my career if I left that company. Yes, the job I accepted is part time, but it allows me to develop my career more and add to my portfolio.
