My brother is getting married on Christmas Eve and his wedding will cost less than £200...that is being frugal.

Registry office wedding, dress off Ebay (less than £30), home cooked buffet, home reception, travelling in friends and family cars, silk flowers off Ebay for bride (very cheap!) and home music system for dancing to.

No honeymoon (well it is Christmas Eve) but at least he has got the day off work on Christmas day so they can lay in a while.

    I'm organising it......

Wow!!! That's brilliant-we had a low budget wedding earlier this year but it was over 10 times the cost of your brother's. Ours came in at just over 2.5k and we had a fantastic day.

I organised my own wedding 20 years ago and that was done on a budget too...but no-one would have known.

We had a full top hat and tails, horse and carriage (cheaper than a car) wedding with a sit down reception for 70 guests and an evening reception with buffet for 150.

Bridesmaids dresses were in a half price sale and they were already the cheapest in the shop before the sale (the flower girls' dress cost £5), my wedding dress was a tenth of the one I had seen in the magazines and oodles better - my mum couldn't even make it for the price I paid (she was a seamstress in her younger days).

I played one company off another and got discounts for cash payment, shopped around like you wouldn't believe and gave myself exactly one year to organise it.

We didn't waste money on rings, both of ours were from Argos and cost in total, less than £40...my engagement ring had cost £52.

We married during lent, so no need to decorate the church with lots of expensive flowers.

The only disappointment was our honeymoon, we had booked to go abroad to a lovely 5 star hotel for 10 days (our destination was just starting up as a holiday place and wasn't particularly popular, so consequently, very cheap - it is now ultra popular and also ultra expensive). Unfortunately, hubby chickened out of his jabs, let on 2 days before the wedding and we lost our money. We ended up going out to Belgium as drivers mates in lorries for 3 days and then 4 days in Manchester by coach and staying at the chief bridesmaid's house.

We didn't take out any loans or even particularly save for the day....it was paid for on a month by month basis in the lead up to the wedding, plus we were also purchasing a house at the same time!

Edit - The average cost of a posh top hat and tails wedding at that time was approx £10k-15k, ours was less than £2k and would have been cheaper if my parents hadn't got away with themselves and went for a more expensive reception package than I had found, they almost doubled the blooming cost of the reception! They wanted to appear rich to the other side.....
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.
