Hi all,
Got a question for you, I hope its not too dumb but if it is feel free to laugh.
As it coming into winter I'm looking at ways of reducing the electric bill in our house. Its a bit hard as I live with my parents so whereas I'm happy to unplug the kettle etc when its not in use my dad doesnt.
Anyway, I was wondering about the house the other day and suddenly noticed in one room we have a tv on a double plug (the ones where you can put 2 plugs in one plug socket) and then the radio alarm in a normal socket. As the tv is the only item in the double plug is this wasting energy? Would it be better for me to take the double socket off and just plug the tv into the single socket?
Thanks in advance!

Unplugging a kettle doesn't save any electricity.
Similarly a double socket doesn't use any electricity -so removing it and plugging TV into the wall socket will not achieve any saving.0 -
You should use the following covers to stop the electricity leaking out when there is nothing plugged in

To save electricity you should unplug the TV or switch it off at the wall.0

You should also be aware that those socket doublers are quite the fire hazard. We stopped using them after having a warning from our local fire service. Because they are quite heavy, esp. when loaded with plugs, they can slip away from the socket exposing the live pins and causing the fire risk. Much safer to use a short extension lead with 2 or more sockets.0
