Hi i run my own buisness doing dog walking etc and over the past few years buisness was good so had all the usual offers of credit cards which i stupidly took. Now i find myself struggling to pay everyone back they keep ringing me and wanting me to up my payments.I cant afford to have. i have a big minus every month as it is.I as thinking about shutting my buisness as by the time i have taken fuel out of what i earn weekly i am lucky if i make £50.00  Have been advised to think about bk or a ipa dont really know if they would be the right thing for me ,but all i do know is i really cant deal with all the pressure i am under at the minute .Trying to explain to the kids why they cant have pocket money every week like their friends etc etc.Feel so sad and just wanna give up i keep trying to sort things out but no i alone cant do thi.s anyone got any brain waves please

I am sorry you are having a difficult time...I have a few suggestions and hopefully it will help :)

The best thing I did (a year ago now) was to go to the CAB and speak to their Debt advisor...I think just talking it through with an objective third party can be enormously helpful...They may be able to negotiate with your creditors for lower payments and freezing the interest...

If your business isn't viable and ceasing it is the best thing, then look at what your options are, for going on benefits, looking at other employment etc...you need to be able to make an informed choice and that means knowing what your choices are...

I hope this helps...and just know you are not alone :)
  • Hi
Ive just read your post and I think you need cheering up.

We are all on here cause we need to talk, god knows I did as myself and my partner felt the wrath of credit payments looming.
No-one can tell you whats best for your situation only you.

However whatever you decide you must be strong. Dont worry about the kids as you will come through this dark period and you will ensure that they are looked after when everythings sorted. They need to know you are there, it aint about the money and I know that!

Im just starting the BR process. It was hard to get my head around at first but there is a light at the end of any tunnel, just be strong, dont make rash decisions and talk, talk, talk on this board if needed.

We are all there for you, so come on cheer up (I know its hard but you are not alone).

And soon the butterfly will be in the air again !!!!!!

I agree with what JMV said, just to add the sooner you act the quicker you can start getting back on track.

My best option was BR I was advised by National debt line, and with that I was BR within two weeks of making the decision.

There are other options too, they sent me a great pack explaining what each option is and the ins and outs of each one. Having everything infront of me I made an informed decision to go BR.

I knew I needed to be strong and get on with it for my children, I want to provide stability in the future and decided to act before it is too late.

Life is really too short to live it under a dark cloud and I refuse to let such a negitive situation effect my children long term.

I did it on my own I didn't tell family or friends, I didn't want any one with a issue with BR putting me off, it was the best thing I could have done so I can sympathise with the stress you are going through.

What ever you decide is right for you I strongly advise you to get independent free advice asap.

    Good luck :)

Hey Butterfly, just want to re-iterate what the others have said. Get some free, independant advice from CAB, National Debtline or CCCS.

We went with CCCS and they were great (although had to wait a couple of weeks for the appointment as obviously v.busy). Initially we were adamant on not going BR and so they went through all the IVA process with us. However, they talked us through the other alternatives (inc BR) and in the end we made the desision to go BR.

Personally it is the best desision for us and we are able to enjoy the kids now and not constantly worry about the phone calls, lack of money, how we were going to pay for food etc. BR has many down sides too and is a last resort but it was right for us.

Speak to one of the debt charities above (I would do a link but have no idea - must learn how :o) and then any questions/moans/rants you have, feel free to come on here! :)

    Take care, Jedi x
