It does look from what you have posted above that you cannot really afford driving lessons at the moment. If you only have the £104 spare (and some of you costs may be going up a bit) then with driving lessons that would I imagine take you to a negative.

And even if they did only cost £100 per month then you would still not be clearing much from your debts as I assume that the £15 to the overdraft only covers the interest?

Good idea from tasha if you could get a second job. I assume you are not entitled to working tax credits on a wage of £976?

I would also look at an intensive course (where you drive intensivly for a week or more then take your test....

I don't really have time for a 2nd job. When I quit working at the cinema in february for my first job in TV, I asked to stay part time, but they refused, cause I was employed as permanent. That manager was the silliest manager anyway lol. I could always try to get a job back in the cinema for a few hours a week now that manager's left, they did like me there lol.

I could always ask for overtime though, we are a bit behind logging footage, but that would mean the contract will end earlier as its about when the jobs done its done!

I would do an intensive driving course, but they cost about £1200!

On another note, got my 3rd call this week about a job, just had a call from ITV! I'm working now, but where were these calls 1 year ago? lol. If you little experience no one wants to know, but if you've worked on a few shows everyone wants you lol

Scrap the lessons, you're never going to afford a car anyway with those millstone debts hanging round your neck.

Insurance for a newly passed driver will be stratospheric so better to scrap it, pay your dues and then go for it later.

Not entitled to working tax credits as I'm only 23 lol.

Yes the £15 is only the interest. I was thinking as I have £300-400 'spare' in my overdraft I can use that to subsidise driving lesson, but that would meaning paying even more interest! (over £20). So I was debating about clearing my overdraft as much as possible, and then going back into to pay for driving lessons - but not to the extent it's in now. I was wanting to keep most of it for paying off my CC if the interest rate hikes up after my 0% deal has ended

My mum's boyfriend has trained to become a driving instructor but he lives in Tamworth, I'm in London lol. I don't know anyone with a car, and besides I'll need to get put onto the insurance which will cost a lot!

I think I might have a rummage through my old stuff for anything to sell, raise a bit more cash. I also forgot about my £5 Reward from Halifax, there's extra income there :p

I don't want a car, I want a job lol. And if I pass my test before I'm 25 and go on a passplus course I think I can get it subsidised if you live in London - not sure whether they still do this or not.

They're not that big debts, and they're manageable. I have money left over each month, just not enough for driving lessons it seems!
  • Just an idea - can you take any leave from work and go to stay with your mum and take some intensive driving lessons from her boyfriend? Surely he could do you some kind of discount, might work out cheaper anyway.

Not really. My mum doesn't live with her boyfriend she lives in Northampton on a canal boat so there's no room! Her boyfriend also lives on a canal boat lol. Good idea though, but that will mean losing money as I get holiday pay paid to me at the end of my contract providing I haven't used any of it - which I forgot to add to my SOA so yay more money! I always forget about holiday pay when budgeting lol

Anywho I'm off to work now start at 6pm, finish at 3.30am!

But atleast I get free tea, cans of diet coke, toast, biscuits, fruit, water and juice. Well that is the upside working in post production!

If you are in debt then you don't have money left over each month.

But I do have money left over each month. This debt is mostly from uni, which is why I have debts. I am in a position now to pay it back. But I was just wondering whether I should focus on paying my debts back more or use some of the money to pay for driving lessons. My circumstances have changed dramatically since the beginning of the year. I use to live close to my overdraft limit all the time and never have any money spare to do anything. Now I have money left over from my expenses as you can see on my SOA, so I was just wondering where I could use this money.

For me I either need to concentrate on becoming debt free and work as a logger in post production for longer or stay in debt for a bit whilst I concentrate on going down the right career path for me. Either that or just get really lucky and get the very few runners jobs out there that don't need a driving license.
