Well I don't know about private companies in a general sense, but in my industry (creative), a lot of companies rely on public funding.

    Example:

It goes something like this (bit of a chain reaction scenario); one large agency gets a big government or council contract for millions, it is often not cost effective to do all of the work in house, so they take the project and break it up into different pieces, these pieces are then shopped out to different companies who specialise in the given area (web design, copy writing, multimedia etc). Funding has already been vastly removed from local councils already so we have experienced a few large agencies going under. This has then had a chain reaction on all of the sub contracting companies locally, who are now down sizing. Some of which are not actually being financially effected yet but are reducing their liabilities and trimming the fat in the company in anticipation of whats coming.

Given the above scenario, I cannot see how (once the funding has been removed even more) local businesses are going to be in a position to absorb these 490,000 redundant people. Granted, this is a very specific example of my sector but I can only surmise that it is much the same for others. This also does not take into account that a lot of the people who are going to be made redundant will likely "know nothing else" so will find it very difficult to adapt to a different role or style of company.

I think to assume that 490,000 people will be made redundant and then will find jobs privately, so its a none issue is a fairy tale.

There will not be 0.5m redundancies. The cost would be astronomical especially as public sector workers get about 8 years pay for every day they've worked, plus statutory and a rolex as a settlement.

People will leave/retire/maternity/die and the vacancies won't be replaced.

Also the figure stated is over the next four years. Not by this weekend.

Sorry I meant redundant roles, thanks for correcting me.
So what would Labour cut? Simple - the deficit. Not spending, the actual deficit. Like it was cut by £20bn more than expected back in the Spring when tax receipts started to recover thanks to growth

This is the best thing I've read on this forum so far

Any ideas wheres a good place to see what the effects are on myself..... as from what has been said i feel we fall in the middle bit and not lost a lot.

I think the govt has the right idea where it’s going. But listening to the radio this morning to some tu official stating there was no waste in there local council made be spit my corn flakes everywhere. just today we have a job on for a local authority that has been ill thought out, ill planned, done to late, thus costing twice as much as it could have........ And the event it is for was planned as early as 2009..... And next week have a similar job for a different council.. No matter how many times you try to discuss with these people how to plan and prepare so we can do our bit at half the cost, earlier and much more effectively.. .drives me bonkers

Absolute rubbish. The number of people getting this will be miniscule.
