Co-Op's branch & online Privilege Premier account

I have a query regarding the terms and conditions of this account noted in the MSE weekly newsletter. It states you have to switch and there has to be a direct debit to switch as part of the terms. Is it possible to set up a direct debit from an account (not co-op / smile) that pays say £10 from one of your accounts to another account each month, then do the switch to meet the t&C's. Would this be valid?

Furthermore, if it was and therefore successful, could you then later cancel the DD without voiding the T&C's?

Wondering if anyone has had success doing this when fufilling similar account transfers for "bonuses" with similar T&C's.

Comments

  • Not quite similar, but I set up nominal direct debits to online savings accounts (AA, Birmingham Midshires, etc) to meet the account conditions for CitiGold (I can't/won't use the account as a "main" account until they sort out Faster Payments but the account benefits are worth having for free).

I find these types of Direct Debits the easiest ones to use (fewer issues if something goes wrong). Also easy to cancel at a later date without affecting bills.
