One of my male best friends was a TA for 3 years before he trained to be a teacher.House saving Targets:

Two men in my son's school were TAs before they trained to be teachers. There are also a few male TAs in other schools in my area, but there are far more female TAs.0

My Uncle is a male teaching assistant. Think there needs to be more, break down a few barriers. Men have qualities to offer to the classroom.0

Surely a more appropriate question should be, are there any suitably qualified males applying for TA roles? The reason that they are under represented is that few males choose to go into that area, not because of discrimination.Gone ... or have I?0 -
I work in a school where there are about 15 female teaching assistants and one male teaching assistant. The forest would be very silent if no birds sang except for the birds that sang the best0

My son was a teaching assistant for twelve months before he started his PGCE. He did it to confirm that this was really what he wanted to do. It really helped him because a number of his fellow students dropped out after the first teaching practice as they did not realise it was such hard work!!
It appears that more males use the teaching assistant post as a stepping stone to becoming a qualified teacher rather than females who do the job because it fits in with their childrens' school hours. Sorry if I'm stereotyping.0 -

There are no male TA's at my school, nor at any schools I have ever worked in.
HOWEVER, I agree with mandyc for the reasons why!0
