we've got a close family wedding coming up and would like to buy long dresses.
budget is approx £15 (wouldn't mind if it had to stretch till £20)
wanted something elegant but cheap.:o
any ideas would be of great help.

charity shop is one place you might get lucky... that's where most "occasion" dresses that have only been worn once end up. At least round here anyway.
Or ask around at work to see if anyone has anything lurking in their wardrobe they could lend you.
