Finding out about my bank charges

I only just woke up to my money problems three weeks ago. Basically I owe £43,000 & pay out £1189 per month on debt. After some excellent advice on here, I have tried to cut my monthly outgoings by reducing my Sky subscription, cutting fuel costs etc and, most importantly' transferring my CCs to a zero interest for a year deal on HSBC & working out a 'snowball plan' to ensure that the money I shell out to creditors enables me to do so more efficiently. (Snowballing is such a fab idea.)

Next thing I want to do is to reclaim my bank charges. (I paid £680 in July alone to NatWest in July as they cancelled Standing Orders/DDs etc for fun!) I only have bank statements going back for about a year.

1. Can I ask them to supply me with the figures going back to when I opened the account 4 years ago?
2. Will they charge for this?

I have since switched accounts to the Halifax and try to keep a tight rein on my spending without living like a monk. Aim to be debt free by May 2010

You can write to them and ask them for your account details under the data protection act. There is a maximum charge of £10 which you have to pay, so don't let them fob you off with the old chestnut that you have to pay £5/£10 for a copy of each statement. They also have 40 days in which to provide the information.
And yes the lady in the avatar is me

Right, I have written to Natwest asking for a Direct Debit mandate so that I can clear off my two overdrafts & I have also asked them, under the DP Act for details of all charges paid since I opened the A/C with them 4 years ago. I have enclosed a cheque for £10 to this end.

I sent off my £10 to NitWits but they charged me £5 per copy of my statements...

A "copy" is the entire batch of statements asked for. I got 6 years worth...
