DMP, Credit File & Job Hunting

Hi all.

I'm a bit down in the dumps. :(
Following the purchase of our business in Feb this year I'm now working for the firm who bought us.
They wont recognise that my job role doesnt exist any more and seem quite content in letting me wilt away in the corner.
I'm not challenged anymore.
I suspect that redundancy isnt too far away.. actually I'm kinda looking fwd to that as my plan was - pay off debt!! Then hopefully get a new job and make a fresh start.
Now I've been on a DMP for about 5 years now and still gotta while to go.
Was 'headhunted' recently and had an interview last Friday for a new job with a great salary and benefits. A new start!:)
An hour before the interview I got a phone call to basically say "dont come' - we've seen your credit file! Thanks anyway....":(
So. My world has been blown apart, any chances of getting a new job in financial services are shot - even though my previous firm was happy with how I tackled my debts through DMP.
I cant see a way forward anymore... I'm on a half decent salary but only because of the job I'm in - If I cant work in this industry in a similar role - I'm done for - I wont be able to earn, live and pay debt?

Any ideas/thoughts?
Does a credit reference file not show that you are on a DMP and mayking payments?
How should I approach this situation in furture?

Appreciated, cheers.

    Hi

I would firstly look at your credit file so you can see what is showing. There is no actual flag that shows you are in a DMP, some creditors may use the arrangement to pay flag but others will just keep updating your balance. And its likely most accounts will show defaults. Do you have any CCJs?

Did you actually give them permission to search your credit file (either in the job application or were you directly asked). If not then they have acted totally unprofessionally in accessing your information. If they didn't have your permission then I would take it further and make a complaint about them.

What sort of company was this?

If you have been in your DMP for 5years then its quite likely that some of your defaults will be coming up to disappearing from your file fairly soon. Check out the dates of all your defaults. If most will go fairly soon (6years from the original date) then you may find that this stops being a problem fairly soon - and maybe you can stay sitting in that corner a little while longer in your current job.

Your credit file will not show the DMP as such (I think) , what it will show is the defaults, late payments and other related information.

The firm I work for has a strict rule on this and will not employ anyone into the finance department with a bad credit rating, it's in the company policy handbook even. (even a purchase ledger clerk)

Cruel but now a fact of life I guess.

  • Thx for the prompt replies.

I did give them permission through application. So I have no issues really with that. Would have been nice to explain though.

Yeah, I'm facing a future life without working in financial services because of this lead weight round my neck. I'm worried that any career change will cost me 50% of my salary and reduction of debt paying capability and ultimately my house!

I was wanting to get redundancy - do full and finals to the lot - walk into new role and carry on with a new start and about £500 a month back in my pocket. But that fluffy dream is disapearing.

I can only see reduced debt offerings, CCJs, pot noodles and a tent looming. I didnt sleep last night because of it.

Ah well, we make our bed and have to lie in it I suppose.. if there's no way of fin servs then I may look into the IVA world?

Chin up mate, always the darkest hour before the dawn.

Pot noodles aren't that bad and you can get that dynamite chilli stuff from Netto or B&M for £1
