Well done! Sounds like you handled it very well. I can't say I'd enjoy being cross-examined like that. Let's hope they take notice of what you've said.

  • Lets hope they do something about it. Martin mentioned so many injustices going on, it affecting so many thousands of good people, things really need to change, and quickly.

In the mean time, we can only hope.

Well done Martin, you did something great today, and cannot be commended enough.

Am intrigued as to which swear word you used. Was it a bad one?

Either way, I don't blame you. It is a rediculous suggestion that we should have to pay to sort out the banks' mistakes. [Trying not to think of the whole recession here!]
Surely they should be charging the banks for every complaint upheld...
  • You did a brilliant job Martin,

Ive been affected by many of the issues you put forward.

The points you made that were important to me were:-
    explanation not just information,
financial education in schools (and adults!)
the banks not automatically rejecting complaints
The FOS having the ability to flag recurring issue like PPI.
My own single premium PPI case (£12,000 worth) is still waiting to be referred to an adjudicator 2 years and 8 months since the company received my first letter of complaint.

I would vote for you to be the peoples champion, You're definitely my champion anyway.

Martin, I think you're in a very special position. And one the govt should appreciate.

You have the ear of over 2 million people on this site and through your email. The forum is a fascinating place, where real people express their real problems and financial 'wants'. (If I was doing my master's now, this forum would be a great Social Policy dissertation!)

I believe that you do really try to represent your constituency, and can only hope the govt appreciates that you have a mandate to do this in a way very few of them actually share :o
I was a board guide here for many years, but have now resigned. Amicably, but I think it reflects very poorly on MSE that I have not even received an acknowledgement of my resignation! Poor show, MSE.

You may have sworn whilst responding to the committee, but you won't have sworn 'on Hansard'
Hansard is not a verbatim report, which is why we were able to understand what John Prescott thought he said but didn't.

"...a Consumer Minister who, like the womens minister, is solely focused on consumer issues."

Strange... I thought the women's minister was focused on women's issues? :rotfl:

  • the fact that they asked you to come and talk or be questioned by them illustrates to me that the power of this site and its members led is a force that the goverment is concerned about as we are making a difference on a lot of levels be it to each individual here saving money, avoiding scams, finding bargains etc or effecting a change in ways those who want our custom operate
I am responsible me, myself and I alone I am not the keeper others thoughts and words.
